Uncle Joe had a silver Christmas tree, strung with large multi colored lights, the old kind that will burn you if touched them too long. Maybe thats why the tree was made of metal. Piles of wrapping paper, tangled ribbon, ripped open boxes, snacks on every surface, and big old black and white consul TV with pong beeping back and fourth on the tube. A fire place blazed popping out an occasional ember into the living room. Nobody seemed to notice the potential to burn the place down, but nobody cared. The tree would remain.
Near the tree towering over all the clutter sat a very large box - my favorite gift. Inside, a bunch of old electronic NASA junk uncle Joe collected from work. Most of the stuff was quite toxic and would look bad even to Chinas standards. Wires, diodes, circuit boards when they still used tubes, switches, lights, and good amount of lead with a whisper of mercury. Enough stuff that a 7 year old can build a spaceship with and thats all that mattered.
